Shamba Shape Up is Kenya’s first make-over television programme guiding small scale farmers on topics such as improved pest management, irrigation, cattle rearing, poultry keeping, financial education, crop management techniques, in an engaging yet informative way. The Shamba Shape Up team visit a different farm each week in a different area of the country. The team involve the film crew and a number of experts from partner organisations who specialize in the topics to be covered in the episode.
Shamba Shape Up’s first series was broadcast on Citizen Television in 2012. Series 2 and 3 were aired in 2013 and Series 4 was aired in 2014. Series 5 is on air now. Citizen Television has the highest audience reach of all the local Kenyan television channels and the highest share of viewing in both urban and rural areas of the country.
As of 2015, Shamba Shape Up has expanded to Uganda and Tanzania. iShamba, Shamba Shape Up’s mobile platform, was also launched in Kenya in 2015. iShamba offers all the best tips from the show, along with weather alerts, market price information and special offers.
